Excerpt: It’s been two years since Google launched its mobile payments platform, Google Wallet, but the initiative has been slow to take off. The company had reportedly planned to launch a plastic card that could be used at merchants who don’t accept tap-and-go NFC payments. On Friday, though, AllThingsD reported that Google has abandoned the idea. AllThingsD said the change of plan was included in a memo that also announced the departure of Google Wallet head Osama Bedier. The report cited sources who said that “Google CEO Larry Page abruptly killed the card launch plan after he was displeased with a glitchy run-through last week.... read the full post.

Excerpt: eBay recently announced it will follow Google, Amazon, and Facebook’s lead and allow third-party marketers to access eBay’s user data for targeted advertising outside of the eBay ecosystem (i. e. on the third-party’s website). Previously, eBay only used its data for advertising on its own sites. This is a strong signal that eBay views itself as a major player in the lucrative advertising game. Google Smartwatch Patent Hints At Wrist-Based Glass

Excerpt: Google Glass might be having a few issues of late, but if you're not impressed by the idea of wearing glasses constantly and winking to take pictures, you might have another option before long. Engadget has posted an image of a new watch-based device, patented by Google, which would perform many of the same functions. While the drawing does not necessarily mean such a product is in the works for commercial release, it does hint at an intriguing new direction for the company's move into wearable computing. The device would have familiar Smartwatch functions such as a display, processor and wireless connection - presumably to an Android phone or tablet.... read the full post.
