Excerpt: In Abraham Lincoln’s famous A House Divided speech, he detailed the importance of planning: “If we could first know where we are, and whither we are tending, we could better judge what to do, and how to do it. ” The same need holds true in the API world. Thus, technical writers and documentarians will embark on a two journey in hopes to refine the technical documentation and writing process at Write the Docs (April 8-9). Those who interact with APIs on a consistent basis understand the importance of well designed, clean documentation. Excerpt: The relationship between developers and documentation can be described like the bond between cats and dogs. They are on totally different levels of the food chain, so sometimes the relationship works out, but most of the time it doesn’t. If the cat and dog get along well you’ll have a happy home, but if they don’t you’ll live in a state of toleration - nothing more and nothing less. It is said that the best way of forming a healthy bond between a cat and a dog is to bring them up together. They’ll get to know each other from the beginning and learn to respect each other. I think that works well for the relationship of developers and documentation as well. When talking about documentation it’s important to differentiate.... read the full post.

But APIs with awful documentation are a dime a dozen. An API’s documentation is its human interface, so why make it look like it was written for robots? Why can’t API documentation eat its own dogfood? The Scripted API Documentation is built on the Scripted API. It is dynamic and interactive.
